Everything EspressU does

Taken from the app's README and its own settings screens.

Graphics and speed

EspressU draws with Metal, Apple's own graphics API, and keeps a persistent shader cache so games compile fewer shaders the next time you play them.

  • Graphics settings, a Display page, and a performance overlay you can turn on to watch how a game runs.
  • Options per game, so one game's tweaks don't change another's.

Built-in JIT

JIT is what makes games run at a playable speed. EspressU includes an ARM64 recompiler for iOS 17.4 and later, with a JIT page in Settings.

  • Import your pairing file and connect LocalDevVPN.
  • JIT starts on its own when you launch a game.
  • Without JIT, the much slower interpreter runs instead.

JIT setup steps

Controls

Play with a controller or on the touch screen.

  • Controllers: DualSense, Xbox and MFi.
  • On-screen GamePad: a touch pad you can lay out yourself.
  • Motion and aiming: its own settings page.

Games and library

Bring your own legally dumped games. EspressU opens .wua files, decrypted folders, or encrypted ones with your own keys.txt.

  • Updates and DLC can be imported.
  • Organise your library, and fetch cover art for it.
  • Graphic packs for games that have them.

Make it yours

EspressU has a library of colour themes for the whole app. A few of them:

Your data

EspressU includes no firmware, keys or games. You use your own Wii U keys and your own dumps.

  • Back up your settings and restore them later.
  • Your library and files stay on your device.
